Mirthe van Popering

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”

― Annie Dillard, The Writing Life

A B O U T M E

My days are spent between the lines, in Berlin. It is where I craft intricate yet unflinching voices in poems, prose and projects, or curate them as co-founding editor for Phyll Magazine. In all my writing, I seek encounters—ones that feels honest, beautiful and necessary.

Drawing on my education in music, languages, arts & philosophy (B.A.) in Utrecht, cultural analysis (M.A.) in Amsterdam, creative writing at The Writers Studio New York and poetry with Tracy Fuad at the Berlin Writers’ Workshop, I create spaces for ideas to come alive.

My portfolio showcases a selection of my freelance projects in the arts, education, (mental) health and other fields. My services include research, copywriting, content writing, editing and translation (e.g. for print, web, audio or press) in native-level English, Dutch and German as well as fluent French.

In my independent work, I grapple with the fallout of supremacies, ecopoetics, the porosity and stickiness of language, Zeitgeist, desire and the unfiltered truths found in dreams. Under poetry, you can find my (forthcoming) publications. On p a r e l s I occasionally publish short stories, essayettes and asides.

I work on: poems • short stories • essays • interviews • long-form articles • columns • blogs • guided meditations • podcasts & talks • screenplays • bios • artist & curatorial statements • event descriptions • reviews • press releases • web & app copy • project proposals • line edits • translations • miscellany

Mirthe is excellent to work with. I unreservedly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled, responsive and reliable writer who goes the extra mile to deliver high quality work.

— Jana Intan Brincker, Neuroscientist and Product Manager at GEIST

Mirthe’s interpretation of our music and message turned into a beautiful and, above all, powerful story, which proved to be both successful and sustainable.

Working with Mirthe is a blessing. She is a workaholic (in a good way), limitless source of creativity and a marketing genius through and through.
